Former Michigan resident Scott Westerman has spent several decades in telecommunications and launched a record label, international radio network, and aviation leasing firm, among other ventures. He also wrote the book Motor City Music - Keener 13 and the Soundtrack of Detroit, which explores the influence of a radio station in Michigan. Scott Westerman also operates the Rock and Roll Revisited blog, where he recently discussed songs from the 1950s to 1980s that inspired sequels or "answers" from other artists. Some of these songs include:

1. Back Street Affair - Webb Pierce's 1952 hit country song details a husband who had an extramarital affair, and is directed toward his new love. Kitty Wells released an answer to the track the following year from the perspective of the woman in Pierce's song.

2. Oh! Carol - Neil Sedaka's 1959 hit record was a love song dedicated to his then-girlfriend Carole King, known at the time as Carol Klein. King later responded with the song Oh Neil, in which she sings: "I've loved you for so long. I never dreamed you'd put me in a song."

3. Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line - While the song was originally written by Jimmy Bryant, Waylon Jennings recorded Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line in 1968. The song details a man telling his female lover that he wants to leave the relationship because of her childish attitude. Jean Shepard responded the following year with Only Mama That'll Walk the Line.
